VARTA Consumer is underscoring its commitment to Germany as a production location. The full-range portable battery supplier is investing a two-digit-million sum in the Dischingen plant and increasing output by more than 20 percent.
With the expansion of production that began in fall 2016, VARTA Consumer Batteries is investing a total of €11.3 million in the production site, which is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and 14001. As a result of the modernization and expansion of the two production lines for manufacturing AA and AAA batteries, production volume is being increased to 1.6 billion round cells per year. The approximately 450 employees who work here also benefit, since the expansion of production will cut down on Sunday and holiday shifts in the future.
A professional implementation plan that has undergone detailed coordination will prevent any production downtime or delivery bottlenecks during the measures aimed at expanding production. Regular operations at the plant will continue practically as normal, even when the updates and expansion work are performed. These measures are scheduled to wrap up in fall 2017.
Strong growth in Europe
As the only manufacturer of alkaline portable batteries, VARTA Consumer produces in Germany. In the past two years, it has expanded production by more than 250 million alkaline batteries to meet demand in Europe.[1] "The continuous demand for VARTA batteries reflects the trust and satisfaction of end consumers worldwide," says Peter Werner, General Manager Consumer Batteries Europe/ Middle East Africa and Australia.
