Innovation “Made in Germany”: VARTA batteries more powerful than ever

VARTA Consumer’s new battery blister packs will be available from retailers starting September: Besides a performance upgrade, the new battery packs mark the launch of the “Best Energy Concept” for primary batteries. Information for consumers on the packaging is structured more clearly and the design has been improved based on the latest market research findings, making it easier for consumers to find the right batteries for
the right devices.

The best VARTA performance on the market

VARTA batteries meet the highest demand to deliver the best performance for your devices. In keeping with this motto, the developers at VARTA have succeeded in improving the performance of the best VARTA battery even further. The company has been delivering quality “Made in Germany” for over 125 years: This wealth of experience manifests itself in innovative and quality products.

The “Best Energy Concept” is a winner

In recent years, the introduction of icons on the packaging of the different product lines has enabled consumers to recognize which batteries are best suited for which devices. According to the latest market research findings, this concept has been an all-out success: 90%* of all consumers understand that different devices have different power requirements and 78%* are certain that it is so. The new “Best Energy Concept” will apply to all VARTA primary batteries starting September 2014, offering the best power solution for different devices. The VARTA “High Energy” AA battery, for example, was developed specifically for use in toys, computer accessories as well as flashlights and provides the right amount of performance for power-hungry devices.

The new product design ‒ more appealing than ever

Both the design of the icons as well as the overall packaging has been adapted based on the findings of the current market research study. This means that consumers can now find the information they need to make a purchase easier and faster than ever before.

 Press Release Primary Round 2014

The new icons are a real eye catcher at the point of sale, setting VARTA products clearly apart from the competition: The customer can immediately see which batteries are the right ones for a particular device. The icons represent the range of applications the battery is typically used for. One exemplary application area of the battery has been enlarged and is clearly visible next to two smaller icons that depict what the battery can also be used for. Properties that are equally important, such as size (e.g, AA or AAA), battery life and performance are displayed prominently on the packaging where the consumer will immediately notice them.

“The new design of the blister packs and the point-of-sale displays are based on VARTA’s 5-3-1 principle: “Consumers will be able to see VARTA branded products on the shelf from a distance of five meters, the color coding of the individual ranges are visible from a distance of three meters, and the application icons can be recognized from a distance of one meter,” explains Axel Spangenberg, Senior Marketing Manager Batteries at VARTA Consumer.

Market-specific packaging

The blister packs will feature different designs depending on the region they are to be marketed in: On the packaging in Germany, VARTA’s USP “Made in Germany" will be underlined with a clearly visible German flag. In the UK, on the other hand, eye-catching stickers will be used to highlight the power of endurance compared to competitor brands. And in Russia, all consumer information will be displayed on the front and back of the packaging in Cyrillic.
