Easter vacation – travel tips for the whole family
Easter vacation – travel tips for the whole family
Whether a bonding family expedition or a relaxed beach holiday for young and old: Multi-generational travel is more popular than ever, and Easter vacation is a great opportunity to enjoy time off with the whole family.
For inspiration, here are five destinations worth a visit in 2018.
For wild adventurers: County Kerry, Ireland
Mountains, lakes, coastline, castles and monasteries, all shrouded in a magical fog. County Kerry inspires fantasies and a thirst for adventure. Children can play captain on ferry and boat trips, while adults enjoy rough seas and the fantastic views. Savor adventurous trips through the stunningly beautiful county by horse, bike or horse-drawn carriage – past Irish villages, sandy beaches, rolling hills and natural treasures.
For historic explorers: Matera, Italy
A walk through the southern Italian city of Matera is like a tour through 9,000 years of history: Ancient stone buildings stand above caves, a historic cathedral and a medieval city center. Matera is one of the world’s oldest cities and will be a European Capital of Culture 2019, and it was selected as one of the top destinations for 2018 by the experts from the Lonely Planet travel guide.
For nature lovers: Vorarlberg, Austria
Panoramic alpine views, wild flowers, pastures, herb farms, cabins and peaceful valleys: Vorarlberg near the Arlberg Mountains is a picture-book destination for families. And it has something for every member of the family – whether hiking, climbing, cycling or spas. A trip to Bregenz is a particularly impressive day out: The modern Pfänder Panoramic Cable Car is open daily and will take the whole family up the Pfänder in comfort in just six minutes. A breathtaking view of the Alps awaits at the top, along with deer, wild boar, mountain goats and groundhogs.
For sun lovers with cultural interests: Seville, Spain
Andalusia is the most southerly of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions on the European mainland and offers a pleasant warm climate from Easter onwards. One look at the deep green olive groves, orange and cypress trees and palms is enough to give you a holiday feeling. With a little luck, eagle-eyed children will be able to pick out a few pink flamingoes too. The region’s fairytale architecture, which can be avant-garde at the same time, is particularly fascinating for adults and children alike. Palaces with lush gardens, large cathedrals and stately Moorish buildings bring to mind old children’s tales. Meanwhile, the Metropol Parasol in the heart of Seville, an impressive futuristic wooden construction on a gigantic scale, could be something out of a science fiction fantasy.
Our insider tip: Møn, Denmark
The Danish island Møn is one thing above all: unspoiled. That makes it perfectly suited to family hikes with children. The Stege Skov forest has marked family trails that lead past unbelievably beautiful playgrounds. There is even a special wooded area for families with dogs. A walk along the island’s Baltic beaches is usually accompanied by a fresh breeze, so windproof clothing is a must. A trip to Møns Klingt, the highest bluff in Denmark, is also highly recommended. The white chalk cliffs on the Island’s eastern shore are surrounded by hilly beech woods, offering a unique natural adventure.
